Randall Field is Executive Director of the Mobility Systems Center at the MIT Energy Initiative. This Center brings together MIT’s extensive expertise in mobility research to understand current and future trends in passenger and freight mobility. Previously, as Executive Director for the Mobility of the Future study at MIT, he assembled a team of researchers and sponsors to investigate how new technologies, alternative fuels, advanced powertrains and government policies may change the transportation system, the vehicle fleet and the consumption of various fuels over the decades ahead. As Executive Director for the Conversion Research Program at MIT for 9 years, he worked with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to explore various conversion technologies for production of alternative fuels. His research has included biofuels, geothermal, solar, carbon capture, lifecycle analysis, techno-economic analysis, and process technology systems analysis. Prior to MIT, Randall worked for Aspen Technology for 23 years. He received a MS in Chemical Engineering Practice from MIT and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Caltech.
